Artistic Inspiration
Dada was both a movement in visual art as well as a literary movement that originated in Zurich, Sweden. It began in 1916 and ended in 1924. The causation for the birth of this movement was an outrage of sorts in reaction to the outcome of World War One as well as the contributing factors in the beginning of the war, for example, extreme nationalism. Dada was inspired by various prior art movements including; Cubism, Futurism, Constructivism, and Expressionism. Dada did not stick to one medium, rather it was expressed in extreme ends of multiple spectrums. Medias included poetry, photography, sculpture, and collage. Dada was trademarked by its aesthetic for innovative uses for materials and the mockery of selfish capitalist ideologies. These ideas struck deep in the hearts of many artists in diverse locations including Berlin, New York City, and Paris. Each city set up their own definitions and meanings behind Dada which furthered the public’s intrigue of this typically bizarre movement. The Dada movement gave way to the foundations of multiple areas of modern and contemporary art.

Group Critique/Planning
The original idea of my piece was to do a found object inspired by the Dada movement. My first plan was to do a found object piece. The thought process that I had was that the piece would be symbolic of what it was like to live in a man's world as a woman. It was difficult to think of an object that express the idea of being disregarded unless needed. I wanted to stray from stereo typical signs of "the struggle of beauty.” The symbols often include Barbie dolls, high heels, or makeup. I felt that these ideas with overused and dried out. However, my first idea was about manipulating her to that lipstick in some fashion. Lipstick is often viewed as a sign of beauty, usually associated with the color of red. I was given some advice in the group critique as far as expression for the project. It was suggested to me that I focus on something that expresses . The emotion I am attempting to convey as opposed to just the feeling of an item. I thought that I could really tired this together with the Dada movement through the use an expression of materials. Another suggestion that I received was to throw traditional art media and reason out the window. This is a concept that I struggle with. I am quite traditional in terms of what I classify art as. Usually, I create various paintings or pencil drawings. The use of data for inspiration is a way for me to explore other realms of media. I am hoping that this project will allow me to express myself and my believes the visual form while I am hoping that this project will allow me to express myself and my believes the visual form while evoking an emotion in the ways of the piece. I feel that emotion from others in the fundamental area of art. If it is not prompted emotion, that has lost all possible meaning of significance.

Experimentation

My inspiration for my experimentation was Sharps Project by Stuart Haygarth. I simply used these specific books as place holders as opposed to textbooks or various other works that carried a heavier meaning. The purpose of the lay outs was to work with the shape and outline of the possible formats of my final work, until I scrapped this idea entirely.

Meaning
The idea for my piece is the lack of creativity and originality in the american education system, and the contradictions that the system establishes. This specifically comes into play when allowing students to express themselves and the varying ways that they think or understand based of their own physical and mental needs inside the classroom. The piece is, in a way a satirical joke at the combustion of the mental health of many students during their high school years. These various stressors are symbolized by the ACT prep book, as an obvious indication of stress and high school. The piece also represents the strains that are put on students by multiple choice testing, and the significant outcome that can arise from bad test taking; hence the burning of the book and the slow disintegration of the pages. CHANGING
Reflection 04/07/17
I was nervous going into the presentation, especially presenting in front of fifty plus people with a project that I thought would be taken extremely well or extremely poorly based off of how I presented my meaning and connections to the artist. Unfortunately, my presentation time was cut quite short, and I was not able to go into as much detail as I would have liked. The initial reaction to the images of my piece appearing on the screen were positive, specifically from the students, and it led me to believe that I had struck a few of the chords that I had intended to. The feedback that I received was helpful, but I believed to be impractical based off the setting of my workplace for the project. I was complimented on the quality of my craftsmanship, and the main photograph itself, which was something that I was also concerned about. I was told that my meaning also made sense, and while it was a lot deeper than aesthetic choices, it made sense and was fitting to my piece. I was fairly happy with the outcome of the group critique and project as a whole.

Clearly explain how you are able to identify the cause-effect relationships between your inspiration and its effect on your artwork.
- I attempted to complete an abstract piece of work that could be interpreted in different ways based off of the viewers beliefs on the style of the piece, or how it was constructed and fashioned.
- It is good to be different and constantly exceeding the boundaries and the realm of possibility of what art could be.
- There is more to less in life, such as patterns and ideas hidden away in plain sight.
- That madness and chaos often over-lap, and that is simply because genius is something that has not been done yet.
- There is an importance to not lose creativity to convention and always push the boundaries of the unknown.
